VEO Camera Revolutionizes Youth Football Training and Analysis in Israel

The introduction of the VEO camera technology is transforming how football is filmed, analyzed, and taught in Israel, particularly at the youth level. Traditionally, coaches relied on notebooks and memory to review games, but today, VEO cameras automatically record matches, collect data, and generate heat maps, allowing coaches and players to revisit and analyze specific moments in detail. The system also integrates artificial intelligence (AI), which acts as a virtual assistant by quickly identifying patterns, mistakes, and key moments, thus enhancing the coaching process without replacing the coach.

VEO's impact is most significant in children's, youth, and junior leagues, where every game serves as a learning opportunity. Coaches can pause video footage to engage players in understanding their decisions, making the learning process more interactive and effective. The technology tracks various metrics such as shots on and off target, passes, ball possession, and activity zones, turning subjective impressions into objective data.

Currently, around 280 VEO cameras operate across Israel, primarily in youth football fields, with an annual cost of approximately 10,000 shekels per camera including subscription and service. A recent upgrade, Analytics 2, provides individual player metrics like running mass, speed, heat maps by playing time, and spatial distances between players, eliminating the need for GPS vests.

The technology's Israeli introduction is credited to Uri Cohen, a former football coach with experience in Israeli clubs and a background in 3D imaging. After returning to Israel from abroad, Cohen recognized VEO's potential, became its local representative, and expanded its presence from two cameras to hundreds nationwide. The system not only aids in tactical analysis but also supports children with attention difficulties, emphasizing football's educational value beyond winning.

This eight-year evolution from simple recording to AI-powered analysis provides coaches with enhanced tools to understand player behavior and improve training efficiency. While coaches maintain decision-making authority, VEO offers an additional perspective, effectively serving as a virtual assistant. For young players, the end of a match marks the beginning of a deeper learning experience facilitated by this technology.
