Right-Wing Activists Attacked with Stones Near Sa’ir, One Palestinian Killed in Return Fire
On August 21, 2026, a group of right-wing Israeli activists embarked on an unauthorized hike near the outskirts of the Palestinian village of Sa’ir in the West Bank. During the excursion, Palestinians from the village threw stones at the activists, injuring several individuals. According to Israeli military sources, a security personnel who arrived at the scene responded with gunfire, resulting in several Palestinians being wounded and one Palestinian fatality. Palestinian sources claim that one of the right-wing activists was responsible for the shooting.
Following the incident, a house in the village was set on fire. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops arrived to disperse those involved but did not make any arrests. The police have opened an investigation into the event. Earlier on the same day, right-wing activists reportedly set fire to engineering equipment in Wadi Raham and spray-painted slogans such as "Mutual Responsibility" on a building. IDF forces called to the scene were unable to apprehend the perpetrators, who fled.
Palestinian social media reported that settlers from the Susya outpost attacked near Wadi Raham, setting heavy machinery ablaze and spraying graffiti. This incident follows recent clashes about ten days prior between Israeli security forces and right-wing activists in the village of Khosra near Ramallah, where activists attempted to establish a new outpost by erecting tents at the entrance to two families’ homes. Police and IDF forces intervened to remove the tents.
Security agencies including police and the Shin Bet are expected to arrive at the site shortly to conduct further investigations. The incident highlights ongoing tensions and confrontations between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank region.
