Gabi Kanikovski Comes Off Bench in Ferencvaros' Europa League Win Over Trabzonspor

Ferencvaros secured a 1-0 victory against Trabzonspor in Turkey on Thursday in the Europa League playoff round, with Israeli midfielder Gabi Kanikovski entering the match as a substitute in the 60th minute. Kanikovski, who has already agreed to terms with Maccabi Tel Aviv, received a yellow card in the 91st minute. Hungarian media reported that any transfer involving Kanikovski or other Ferencvaros players will likely be finalized only after the playoff round, once the club determines which competition it will continue in.

In the match, Kanikovski replaced Philip Rommens, one of the team's key central midfielders alongside Marius Corbu. Ferencvaros started with Callum O'Dowda in Kanikovski's usual left midfield position, who has been a regular starter in European matches despite scoring only once in 33 appearances last season. Ferencvaros will not play again until the second leg next week, so coach Balazs Borbely did not make rotation decisions based on upcoming matches. Borbely praised his team's first-half performance and defensive effort, acknowledging difficulties in ball possession during the second half but emphasizing the team's fighting spirit.
