Israeli Police Chief Cancels Senior Appointment Meeting Over Leaks

Israeli Police Commissioner Major General Danni Levi abruptly canceled a senior command staff meeting scheduled to discuss the appointment of officers at the deputy commissioner rank. The decision came after Levi expressed anger over leaks of sensitive appointment details to the media. While appointments to lower-ranking positions are expected to proceed, decisions regarding promotions and placements at the deputy commissioner level have been postponed once again.

The meeting was intended to break a months-long delay in senior police appointments. Among the leading candidates for key regional commander roles were Deputy Commissioners Avi Versano for the Asher region, Dvir Tamam for Sharon, Avi Levi for Eyal, and Nir Yona for Galil. However, these names were only preliminary candidates, and no final decisions had been made. The discussion was also to include the appointment of a deputy legal advisor, but not the head of the spokesperson division.

The cancellation follows a prolonged freeze on senior police promotions, with the commissioner reportedly frustrated that the leaks undermined the integrity of the appointment process. The postponement means that officers awaiting promotion to deputy commissioner will have to continue waiting, while appointments at lower ranks will move forward as planned.
