Israeli Designer Transforms Biblical Texts into Tangible Knitted Art Installations

Rami Wertman, a graduate of Shenkar College's textile design department, has created a unique final project that bridges ancient tradition with contemporary design by knitting letters from the Hebrew Bible into textile art. Her innovative visual language assigns a distinct knitting pattern to each Hebrew letter, allowing her to translate texts from Song of Songs and Psalms into striking textile sheets and an immersive art installation that incorporates sound. This multisensory experience gives physical presence to the biblical words, enabling viewers to see, touch, and even wrap themselves in the material, evoking the spiritual and physical sensation of wrapping in a tallit.

Wertman explains that her project explores the power of words beyond religious belief, focusing on their ability to foster human, emotional, and spiritual connection.
