Childcare Subsidy Bill Removed From Today's Knesset Vote
The coalition informed ultra-Orthodox lawmakers that the bill to subsidize daycare centers is not expected to come to a first reading vote in the Knesset plenum today, amid public criticism. The move appears to reflect concern that the proposal does not have enough support to pass.
In response, United Torah Judaism's Degel HaTorah faction issued a sharply worded statement, saying, “If there is no majority for this bill, there is no majority for anything else. If they do not bring it to a vote, they can close the plenum.” The faction added, “We will not vote with the coalition.”
The dispute centers on whether the coalition can advance the subsidy legislation while facing political pressure and uncertainty over parliamentary backing. For now, the bill is off today’s agenda, and the coalition must decide whether to reintroduce it later or risk further tension with its ultra-Orthodox partners.
