Australia Summons Israeli Ambassador Over IDF Decision Not to Investigate Aid Worker Death in Gaza
Australia has summoned the Israeli ambassador following the Israel Defense Forces' decision not to investigate the death of an Australian aid worker in Gaza. The worker was part of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) organization and was killed on April 1, 2024, along with six other WCK employees, when their vehicles came under fire in the Gaza Strip. An IDF inquiry concluded that the commanders' decisions did not cross the threshold for criminal conduct, citing suspicious signs and operational circumstances, and therefore found no reasonable suspicion to open a criminal investigation or take further action. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong criticized the decision, stating it was "far from sufficient" and expressed Canberra's anger over the matter.
