Emotional Journey of Styling Expert Bruria Bartler Reveals Self-Acceptance Through Her Daughter's Weight Struggle
Bruria Bartler, founder of the Emotional Styling School, shared in an interview with Dr. Hana Katan on Channel 7 how her daughter's childhood weight gain forced her to confront her own issues and transform herself. Bartler admitted she initially aimed to "heal" her daughter but realized she was the one who needed healing. The conversation evolved into a personal and inspiring discussion about body image, motherhood, self-acceptance, and the possibility of change even after years of pain.
Bartler explained that women often experience two conflicting voices: one accepting their body as a divine gift, and another filled with doubt and insecurity. Her work focuses on helping women embrace both voices and gradually recognize their inherent beauty and strengths, rather than seeking external perfection. Her passion for styling began in childhood but was fully realized after discovering a course for religious women, leading her to dedicate 16 years to this mission.
The most profound lesson came from her relationship with her eldest daughter, Uriel, now 21, who struggled with weight gain. Bartler confessed she was ashamed of having an overweight daughter and tried dieting interventions, believing it was for Uriel's health. She now understands that Uriel needed to lose weight for Bartler's emotional health, not the other way around. Bartler urged mothers to accept their daughters as they are, allowing them to grow with confidence and health.
The real change started within Bartler herself, as she learned to love Uriel unconditionally, separate her own life from her daughter's, and see beyond the weight. This shift positively impacted Uriel, who is about to complete Bartler's styling course, symbolizing a full circle. Bartler currently trains women nationwide in emotional styling, emphasizing self-discovery as the foundation for helping others.
Additionally, Bartler is writing a new theater play titled "This Is Me in the Mirror," set to premiere soon. The play explores the inner voices women hear when facing their reflection, aiming to bring joy, healing, and release to audiences. Bartler hopes this artistic endeavor will further her mission of empowerment and acceptance.
