IDF Cancels Soldier Tours at Rabin Center Due to Election Restrictions
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has canceled planned tours for soldiers at the Rabin Center in Tel Aviv amid the current election period. The tours were part of educational and heritage workshops for soldiers but were halted following a directive that prohibits military units from conducting visits during election times. The Rabin Center commemorates former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated for political reasons, and also serves as a venue for dialogue on societal divisions in Israel.
The IDF confirmed that the cancellation is due to restrictions on public relations activities during the two months leading up to elections. According to military regulations, only activities related to military, technical, or scientific topics are permitted during this period. From August 27 until election day, the IDF will also limit interactions between military units and civilian or external organizations, including educational visits to museums and sites such as the Rabin Center.
The center emphasizes that its mission is not to obscure political disagreements but to foster open, respectful discourse and define boundaries for public debate. The IDF's statement clarified that these measures comply with legal and military orders to ensure neutrality and avoid political influence during the election season.
