IDF Restores Formal Dress Uniforms for Ceremonies and Official Events After Nearly Three Years
After nearly three years of combat conditions during which formal dress uniforms were largely suspended, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is reinstating the mandatory wearing of dress uniforms (Madi Alef) for ceremonies and official events. This directive applies to a wide range of occasions including oaths, memorials, command changes, and representative events both on and off military bases.
The order requires IDF personnel to wear standard dress uniforms at state ceremonies, national events, and official gatherings attended by top state officials. It also covers command handover ceremonies, entry and exit from positions, graduation ceremonies at training bases, memorial services, and military funerals. Additionally, dress uniforms will be mandatory for official receptions of commanders and foreign military delegations, military assemblies, heritage evenings, and moments of remembrance.
The directive extends to official civilian appearances representing the IDF outside military camps, including participation in public ceremonies, conferences, and other representative events. It also includes ceremonies for completion of training, rank promotions, awards, decorations, commendations, oath-taking, and the presentation of insignia or badges. Opening and closing ceremonies of units, bases, or military frameworks are also covered.
The IDF noted that further events may be added to the list based on the Military Discipline and Order Branch or decisions by commanders of commands, corps, or branches. The move aims to restore the emphasis on formal military appearance and gradually return to routine and traditional military customs.
