Norwegian Crown Princess’s Son Gets Four-Year Sentence for Two Rape Convictions
Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess, was sentenced on Monday in Oslo to four years in prison after being convicted of two counts of rape. Prosecutors had sought a sentence of more than seven years. Høiby denied the most serious allegations but admitted lesser drug and traffic offenses.
He had faced 40 charges in total, including four rape counts. His seven-week trial gripped Norway and brought out evidence of drug addiction, self-recorded videos of sexual encounters, and more than 800 electronic messages submitted as evidence.
One of the alleged rapes took place in the basement of the royal family’s home. The case has cast a shadow over the Norwegian royal house, adding to criticism already directed at Høiby’s mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, over her past ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The verdict was delivered by an Oslo court on Monday.
