Israeli Restaurant Removes Mother for Ordering Only Two Kids' Meals for Ten Diners
A controversy erupted after a mother, Ayala Levi Adar, was asked to leave the "Lechem Basar" restaurant in Herzliya for ordering only two children's meals for a group of ten, including seven children and two mothers. Levi Adar explained that the children were not very hungry, and she chose to order minimally within her budget. Despite the restaurant not being full, staff told them they could not remain with such a small order for a large group and asked them to leave. Attempts to speak with management and a kosher supervisor were unsuccessful. Levi Adar described feeling humiliated and said the children left hungry and shocked.
The incident sparked a heated online debate, with some supporting the restaurant's decision and others criticizing it. Some commenters argued that ordering so little for a large group was unfair to the business, while others sympathized with the mothers. Levi Adar emphasized she respected business rules but felt the restaurant handled the situation poorly, offering no alternatives such as outdoor seating or takeout.
The restaurant manager, German Hananiev, presented a different account, stating the group was about 12 people with two strollers and insisted on sitting inside despite the indoor area being full and outdoor seating available. He said the group began rearranging tables aggressively and refused to comply with the minimum order policy explained at the entrance. According to Hananiev, the group threatened to damage the business and filmed staff, creating a hostile environment. He claimed the staff offered outdoor seating or takeout options, but the group declined. Hananiev expressed willingness to accommodate if approached politely but said the aggressive behavior left no choice but to ask them to leave to protect other customers and the business.
