Pro-Palestinian Protests Target Israeli Cricket Team at World Cup Qualifiers in Finland

The Israeli national cricket team is facing organized pro-Palestinian protests during their World Cup qualifying matches in Finland. Since October 7, Israel has been banned from hosting international sports events, and even abroad, Israeli teams encounter demonstrations. At every game in Finland, protesters gather in the stands chanting slogans such as "Israel commits genocide," "Apartheid," "Israel is not invited," and "Keep Israel out of international sports events." Erik Kaplan, chairman of the Eilat Association for Non-Olympic Sports, expressed concern over the escalating hostility toward Israeli athletes. He noted that the players face not only athletic challenges but also verbal abuse, boycotts, and disruptions, which deeply affect them. Despite these difficulties, Kaplan praised the athletes for their determination, sacrifice, and mental strength, emphasizing the pride they bring to Israel under tough conditions.

The protests appear to have impacted the Israeli cricket team’s performance, as they lost their first two matches against Portugal and Germany but managed a win against the Czech Republic.
