Professor Yuval Elbashan Joins Israel Hayom as Senior Legal Commentator
Israel Hayom announced on Tuesday that Professor Yuval Elbashan has joined its writing team as a senior legal commentator. His columns will be published throughout the week and in the weekend supplement, Israel Hashavua. Elbashan is a community lawyer, author, and associate professor of law who previously served as dean of the Ono Academic College Faculty of Law. Since 2002, he has been active in media, known for his critical views on Israel's judicial system.
The newspaper's editor-in-chief, Omar Lachmanovitch, praised Elbashan as one of Israel's most original, critical, and knowledgeable legal experts. Lachmanovitch emphasized the importance of Elbashan's clear and unique voice amid growing public scrutiny of the judiciary. He expressed enthusiasm for providing readers with Elbashan's in-depth and enriching legal analyses both during the week and in the weekend edition.
Elbashan holds a bachelor's degree in law with honors from Tel Aviv University and a master's degree with honors from the Hebrew University. In 2015, he was appointed associate professor by the Higher Education Council's committee for professorial appointments. Besides his academic and legal work, Elbashan has published seven novels, including bestsellers such as "Always Flora," "Sipo," and "The Masada File," as well as five legal books.
In his new role, Elbashan stated his mission to make the law accessible to the public, including those outside the legal profession. He pledged to overcome personal and ideological biases to present balanced and objective perspectives. In recent years, he has been a vocal critic of the defendant's law, judicial conduct, and the Attorney General, while also defending judicial independence and the importance of upholding democratic principles.
