Israeli singer Ella Lee recently revealed she is facing a medical issue with her knee and has appealed to her tens of thousands of social media followers for assistance. She shared that the earliest appointment she could secure with an orthopedic specialist is three months away, asking, "What do you do in this situation?" In a video posted on Instagram, Lee admitted she is unfamiliar with medical matters and hoped to find guidance from her online community. She described the problem as new and worsening over the past week.

Lee's experience highlights a broader trend in Israel, where waiting times for specialist doctors have significantly increased in recent years, particularly in orthopedics. A Health Ministry study covering 2019 to 2024 showed dramatic rises in wait times across common outpatient specialties including orthopedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, and ENT.

Additionally, the Health Ministry recently published comprehensive national reports revealing disparities in waiting times for MRI scans and 19 types of elective surgeries across different health funds and hospitals. Notably, there is a gap of over four weeks in MRI wait times between the shortest and longest waiting health funds. Despite these disparities, Israel's MRI wait times remain relatively short compared to other countries with public healthcare systems such as Canada, Sweden, and Norway, even though the number of MRI machines per capita is still low.

The reports raise questions about whether these gaps will narrow and if overall access to medical services will improve. Ella Lee's public call for help underscores the challenges many Israelis face in obtaining timely specialist care.
