Israeli Singer Aviad Daraf Releases Personal Song About Son's Rare Genetic Disorder
Israeli singer and songwriter Aviad Daraf has released a new personal song titled "Spread Your Wings," co-written and composed with his son, Chesed David Daraf. The song features the participation of Rabbi Shlomo Yehuda Baari, known as "Hinoka," who contributes both musically and with encouraging words. The musical production and mixing were handled by SHINER.
The song reflects the family story of the Daraf family, focusing on Aviad's 15-and-a-half-year-old son, Tov-Roi, who is battling Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS), a rare genetic disorder affecting bones and growth. The family's struggle is also portrayed in the music video accompanying the song.
Aviad shared that through his son's journey, he learned a vital life lesson about joy and choosing to see the positive side of life despite challenges. He said, "From Tov-Roi and this struggle, I learned the most important lesson in life, to choose to see the good. Being joyful is a conscious choice about how to view life, no matter what it presents to us."
The collaboration with Rabbi Baari continues a personal connection between him, Aviad, and Tov-Roi. Rabbi Baari participates with instrumental performance and words of encouragement throughout the song. Aviad explained that "Spread Your Wings" was born from this journey, love for his son, and the understanding that everyone can choose light even in difficult moments. He encourages listeners, "You have wings. Spread them."
