Iran Says It Fired 4.5-Ton Khaybar Shekan Missiles at Israel
Iranian news agency Tasnim said the missiles launched at Israel last night were solid-fuel ballistic Khaybar Shekan missiles fired from bases in western Iran toward the Israeli Air Force’s Ramat David base in the north. The report said each missile weighs 4,500 kilograms, is 10 meters long, and has a range of 1,450 kilometers.
According to the Iranian account, Khaybar Shekan is part of the third generation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ long-range missiles. The missile is described as solid-fuel and maneuverable during the landing phase, which Iran says helps it evade missile-defense systems.
Tasnim also said the launch platform and technology reduce the time needed to fire the missile compared with other systems, allowing preparation and launch to be completed in about 20 minutes. Iranian officials presented that as making the weapon one of the strategic options suitable for striking Israel.
Ibrahim Rezaei, the spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security Committee, taunted Donald Trump, saying, “The launches were carried out from the same place Trump said he had destroyed.”
