Maccabi Tel Aviv Deal for Gabi Kanichovsky Unlikely, Representatives Say
Reports have circulated suggesting that Israeli midfielder Gabi Kanichovsky is on his way back to Maccabi Tel Aviv, but his representatives strongly deny any negotiations. They clarified that there has been no contact or initial approach from Maccabi Tel Aviv to Kanichovsky or his current club, Ferencváros. The representatives emphasized that if anyone at Maccabi is hoping for such a transfer, it is unrealistic, as no talks have taken place and the deal is unlikely to materialize.
Kanichovsky currently holds a contract with Hungarian league runners-up Ferencváros, earning 600,000 euros per season, along with a 900,000 euro signing bonus received when he joined as a free agent. His camp estimates that Maccabi would need to pay around five million euros just for his long-term salary, excluding any transfer fees to Ferencváros. A source from the Hungarian club added that no one from Maccabi has contacted them yet, and Kanichovsky's price is only increasing.
Kanichovsky recently started in Ferencváros's 1-0 victory over Zalaegerszeg in the Hungarian league, ahead of their Europa League playoff matches against Turkish side Trabzonspor. He is considered one of the key players by coach Balázs Borbély. Separately, Maccabi Tel Aviv is awaiting the visa approval for Saeid Abu Freih, who is expected to join the squad for the upcoming Conference League playoff matches against Swiss club Lugano.
