Russian Strike Heavily Damages UNESCO World Heritage Monastery in Kyiv

The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery in Ukraine, a UNESCO World Heritage site founded in 1050, was set ablaze and badly damaged in a Russian strike, according to local authorities. The assault also injured 20 people.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack damaged power lines and left 140,000 residents of the capital without electricity. The monastery is one of Kyiv’s best-known religious and historical landmarks, and officials said the strike caused severe harm to the site.

Authorities did not provide further details on the extent of the damage or on the condition of the injured. The latest attack added to the destruction in the capital and disrupted power supply across a large part of the city.
