Negev Mental Health Clinic in Ofakim Marks 20 Years of Vital Community Service

The Negev Mental Health Clinic in Ofakim, operated by the Public Health Association, recently celebrated 20 years of providing comprehensive psychiatric, psychological, and psychosocial care. Located on the second floor of the "Red House" on Ofakim's main street, the clinic offers a supportive environment where individuals can find nonjudgmental listening and professional help.

Following the traumatic events of October 7 and the subsequent months of conflict, the clinic intensified its efforts to meet the urgent mental health needs of residents in Ofakim, the Gaza envelope, and the wider Israeli society. Reception hours were extended, staffing increased, and collaboration with the Ministry of Health and local health funds was strengthened to ensure continuous care.

The clinic was at risk of closure before October 7, but immediate support from the Leon family and the Leon Clinic provided essential resources to maintain operations during this critical period. Yasmin Nahum, CEO of the Public Health Association, emphasized the clinic's deep connection to the community and its ongoing role in healing and recovery.

Michal Herzog, wife of the Israeli president, praised the clinic at the anniversary event, calling it a "beacon of light" for the city of Ofakim and commending the dedicated staff as "soul players" whose expertise has saved lives. She affirmed the clinic's contribution to the city's resilience and renewal amid hardship.
