Uman Tourist Tax Reduced for Prepaid Payments Ahead of Rosh Hashanah Pilgrimage

Preparations for Rosh Hashanah 5787 in Uman are underway as thousands of Breslov Hasidim plan to visit the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. Ahead of their arrival, negotiations took place between the Breslov Union in Uman and the Uman city authorities regarding the local tourist tax, which is mandated by Ukrainian law and strictly enforced in recent years. The city collects this tax from pilgrims visiting during the holiday period.

This year, as in previous years, an agreement was reached allowing pilgrims to pay a reduced tourist tax if they pay in advance. This arrangement aims to reduce costs for visitors and ease congestion at entry points to the Jewish quarter during the busy holiday season. The city committed to organized access from two main intersections, Pushkin-Sadova and Pushkin-Bilinsky (near the bus station), and promised efforts to minimize delays at checkpoints.

The tourist tax at the entrance to Uman is $45, but those who pay ahead via credit card will pay a discounted rate of $27. The Breslov Union encourages travelers to complete payment before arrival to save money and avoid long waits.
