Israeli Police Seek to Extend Detention of Suspect in Bat Yam Rape Case
Israeli police are requesting an extension of the detention of a 51-year-old man suspected of raping an 18-year-old autistic woman in Bat Yam. The suspect allegedly approached the young woman at a café, pretending to be a massage therapist, and led her to an hourly apartment hotel where the assault occurred. The incident took place about ten days ago, and the investigation has since gathered substantial evidence linking the suspect to the crimes.
According to the police, the suspect used a false name and exploited the victim's condition to coerce her into accompanying him. At the hotel, he reportedly raped her and committed sodomy while using violence. During the ordeal, the victim's brother called her, and in a recorded conversation, she expressed fear and innocence. The brother confronted the suspect, who responded defensively, claiming the victim was "a normal girl."
The suspect left the victim alone at the hotel, unaware of her location. Following her brother's instructions, she sent her location via Waze to family members. Police arrived, found her with visible bloodstains, and took her to file a complaint. Utilizing security camera footage and the victim's quick thinking, officers tracked down and arrested the suspect in an open area.
The investigating unit in the Ayalon district plans to extend the suspect's detention again to allow the prosecution to file serious charges soon. Defense attorney Gabi Lieberman noted that the suspect was aware of the victim's intellectual disability and inability to consent freely, yet proceeded with violent and manipulative sexual offenses. The case remains under active investigation as authorities prepare for indictment.
