Economy Minister Nir Barkat Supports Netanyahu Amid Political Smear Ahead of Likud Primaries

Economy Minister Nir Barkat publicly affirmed his support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, rejecting recent reports suggesting he sought to replace Netanyahu. Barkat described these claims as "fake news" resurfacing with deliberate timing to damage his reputation ahead of the Likud party primaries. He stated that he had already denied such allegations three years ago and accused his political opponents of attempting to politically eliminate him due to his effective opposition against them, including legal battles defending the "Power 100" group.

In an interview on the "Israel HaBoker" program, Barkat emphasized that his relationship with Netanyahu remains good and that the Prime Minister has made clear he will not interfere in the internal Likud race. When asked if Netanyahu refused to meet with him, Barkat avoided a direct answer, focusing instead on his campaign efforts.

Ahead of the primaries, Barkat described the day as both critical and emotional, reflecting on his decade of service as Jerusalem's mayor and his commitment to serving the Israeli public on a national level.
