Netanyahu Deals Major Blow to Nir Barkat Ahead of Likud Primaries

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to meet with Economy Minister Nir Barkat, according to a report by Ynet. The meeting request came amid rumors that Barkat had worked behind the scenes to oust Netanyahu from the leadership of the Likud party and the government following the events of October 7, allegations Barkat strongly denied. Barkat sought the meeting to clear the air and move past the controversy, but Netanyahu declined to meet with him.

Netanyahu's refusal is seen as a significant political setback for Barkat just before the Likud primaries. Had Netanyahu agreed to meet, it would have signaled forgiveness and a fresh start, potentially boosting Barkat's standing among party members and helping him secure a high position on the Knesset list.
