Religious Zionist MK Meets Anti-Zionist Rebbe to Discuss Jewish Presence in Galilee

In a surprising encounter in the Galilee region, Religious Zionist Member of Knesset Tzvi Sukkot met with the anti-Zionist Rebbe of Toldot Avraham Yitzchak. The meeting took place during Sukkot's visit to Nof HaGalil, where the Rebbe was also vacationing. Sukkot explained that his main focus is strengthening the Jewish demographic in the Galilee, particularly in mixed cities like Nof HaGalil, where nearly 50% of first-grade students in state schools are Arab, and Jewish residents are rapidly leaving while Arabs are buying homes.

Despite the Rebbe's anti-Zionist stance, he sends his Hasidim to settle in Nof HaGalil and the nearby Har Yona neighborhood. Sukkot views their presence as a significant factor in shifting the demographic balance in favor of Jews. He emphasized that his interest lies solely in increasing the Jewish population in the area, regardless of the Rebbe's motives or benefits such as affordable housing.

Sukkot recounted that the meeting was their first, and he was surprised by the Rebbe's humor and openness. The Rebbe expressed the community's needs and requested assistance in establishing a stronger foothold in Nof HaGalil. Sukkot invited him to visit Joseph's Tomb, a site the Rebbe wishes to see despite health issues. The Rebbe's office recently contacted Sukkot to arrange the visit, signaling ongoing dialogue.

Sukkot also highlighted the frustration among local Jews who feel they are losing their majority in the city and are considering leaving. He welcomed any efforts to bring more Jews to the Galilee, viewing it as crucial to maintaining a Jewish presence in the region.
