Southern District Reports Drop in Property Crime, Rise in Indictments
Southern District police said on Sunday that property crime in the district fell by tens of percent compared with the same period last year, while indictments in property crime cases rose sharply. Police sources attributed the trend to cooperation between Police Commissioner Danny Levi and Southern District Commander Haim Bublil, together with funding from the Ministry of National Security.
According to the figures, property crime in the district fell 25%, from 2,906 offenses in the comparable period last year to 2,173 in the current period. Police also reported a 46% increase in indictments related to property offenses.
The district said there was an 18% drop in residential burglaries, a 35% drop in business burglaries, about a 30% decline in vehicle thefts, a 20% drop in robberies, and a 15% decrease in arson offenses. A police statement said the fight against crimes that harm public personal security and property remains a top priority.
A senior Southern District official said the data reflect “a significant decline in property offenses in the Southern District, alongside an increase in indictments,” calling it evidence of “determined, focused and effective” work by district officers, Border Police fighters, and investigative and intelligence units. He said police will continue using all available tools, in the field, in intelligence, and in investigations, to reach offenders, arrest them, and bring them to justice. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said, “The data prove that our policy works.”
