Iran Reveals Three Pilots Held in Qatar Amid Rising Tensions Over Missile Attack

The Iranian military announced on Saturday that three Iranian pilots who survived the March crash of their SU24 fighter jets are alive and being held captive in Qatar. According to an official statement from Tehran, the pilots remain in Qatari custody, but Doha is accused of preventing any contact between the prisoners and their families or Iranian officials. This revelation has intensified the strained relations between Iran and Qatar, which escalated sharply in mid-March when Iran launched missile strikes on the Ras Laffan gas facility in Qatar, causing significant damage and sparking a diplomatic confrontation.

Prior to the attack, secret negotiations reportedly took place, with Qatar allegedly proposing to shut down the gas facility early in the conflict to drive up energy prices and pressure the United States and Israel, in exchange for immunity. Qatar did suspend operations at the facility on the third day of the war citing security concerns, though satellite images showed no damage at that time. Qatari officials have denied these claims, stating that all measures were taken solely to protect workers.
