American Tourist Rescued After Losing Way in Judean Desert Near Tekoa

A 20-year-old American tourist was safely rescued after losing his way in the Judean Desert east of the Gush Etzion bloc. The young man had left a festival near the settlement of Tekoa and became disoriented while traveling eastward toward the desert. Running out of water and with his phone battery nearly dead, he contacted the police emergency line for help. During the call, he reported his critical situation but lost contact when his phone died.

Following the distress call, volunteers from the Etzion-Yehuda rescue unit, led by commander Ohad Margalit, were dispatched along with security teams from the Gush Etzion Regional Council and Tekoa. Due to extreme heat and flood risks in the desert streams, the search involved extensive ground patrols and drone surveillance. The rescue teams located the tourist in the Tekoa stream area and evacuated him by 4x4 vehicle. Medical personnel examined him on site and confirmed he was in good condition.

This incident highlights the dangers of hiking in the Judean Desert during summer and the importance of prompt rescue coordination. The tourist’s quick call to emergency services was crucial in ensuring his safe recovery before his phone battery died completely.
