Yigal Amir’s Wife Rejects Conspiracy Theories, Claims He Did Not Fire Second Shot at Rabin

More than 30 years after the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, Larisa Trimboler, wife of Yigal Amir, dismisses various conspiracy theories surrounding the event but introduces her own. Over the years, theories have suggested that the Shin Bet replaced Amir’s bullets with blanks or that Rabin was killed by the Shin Bet itself. Trimboler refutes the blank bullet theory, explaining that Amir personally checked and arranged the bullets in his gun before leaving home, fearing provocation due to recent events involving the Kahilani brothers, who were related to the Amir family.

She details the types of bullets Amir loaded, including regular, explosive, and special rounds prepared by his brother Hagai, though the special bullets were not fired. Trimboler also cites ballistic experts to argue that firing three shots in succession with blanks is technically impossible without manual re-cocking, which Amir’s gun lacked. She further claims that the official narrative is flawed and that it is impossible to definitively answer whether Amir killed Rabin, criticizing the lack of a true investigation and the public’s acceptance of unreliable versions.

According to Trimboler, the second bullet that hit Rabin could not have been fired from Amir’s gun, based on ballistic evidence showing it was fired at point-blank range and at a different angle. She also questions the testimony and injury of security guard Yoram Rubin, who was wounded during the assassination. Regarding the third bullet that struck Rabin’s spine, she states that crucial X-ray evidence was never presented in court and remains missing.

Trimboler acknowledges that these facts alone could justify a retrial, but she expresses skepticism that one will occur given the current judicial and media environment. Yigal Amir was convicted of Rabin’s murder by the district court and is serving a life sentence without parole under Israeli law.
