Israeli Press Council Condemns IDF for Unequal Access to Journalists in Kousra

The Israeli Press Council has formally addressed the IDF Spokesperson following allegations that journalists were selectively barred from entering the village of Kousra during recent events, while a Channel 14 reporter was permitted access. The council demanded an urgent meeting with the military to discuss what it describes as discriminatory enforcement of access restrictions.

While acknowledging the IDF's authority to declare areas closed for security reasons, the council criticized the inconsistent application of these restrictions among media outlets. It warned that such selective access undermines press freedom and the public's right to receive unbiased information from the field.

The council emphasized that both Israeli and foreign journalists seek to fulfill their duties by reporting from the scene and called on the IDF to ensure equal movement rights for all reporters within security constraints. It urged the military to review and revise its procedures to prevent media discrimination and to eliminate any misuse of power that leads to unfair treatment of certain news organizations.
