Lebanese Prime Minister's X Account Hacked, Anti-Israel Post Deleted and Restored

On August 12, 2026, Nawaf Salam, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, posted a tweet on his X (formerly Twitter) account condemning Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) operations in southern Lebanon. The post mysteriously disappeared from his account, prompting Salam to announce on August 13 that an unidentified external party had successfully hacked his account and deleted the tweet. He subsequently reposted the original message.

Salam rejected Israeli claims that the destruction in southern Lebanon was justified due to the presence of military infrastructure. He argued that labeling entire villages, neighborhoods, government buildings, public facilities, places of worship, and infrastructure as military targets is illogical and cannot justify the demolition, displacement of residents, or prevention of their return.

The Lebanese Prime Minister emphasized Lebanon's sovereignty, the security of its citizens, and the right of southern residents to return and rebuild their villages as non-negotiable issues. No evidence has been provided linking the hacking incident to Israel or any other entity. The original tweet was first published on August 12 at 17:24 and was restored by Salam on August 13 after discovering its deletion.
