West Ham and Southampton Favored for Premier League Promotion, Says Opta Analyst

West Ham United will begin the upcoming season in the English Championship after being relegated from the Premier League in the final round of last season. The club, now managed by Nuno Espírito Santo who replaced Graham Potter, aims for an immediate return to the top flight. According to a forecast by the Opta Analyst supercomputer, West Ham is the leading candidate to finish first in the Championship, with a 17.2% chance of winning the title and a 29.4% chance of automatic promotion.

West Ham retained key player Jarrod Bowen but sold two star players during the offseason for substantial fees: Matheus Fernandes was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur for 99 million euros, and Dutch international Krisencio Summerville moved to Al-Hilal for 64 million euros. Southampton, featuring Israeli player Daniel Peretz, is ranked second in the forecast with a 23.7% chance of automatic promotion and a 13% chance of finishing first. Middlesbrough follows with a 21% chance, then Wolverhampton Wanderers (19.2%), Millwall (13.8%), Burnley (13.5%), and Norwich City (11.8%).

Historically, West Ham last dropped to the Championship in the 2011/12 season and returned to the Premier League after just one year, though through the playoffs rather than automatic promotion. The club and its fans will be hoping for a similar swift comeback this season.
