Health Ministry Shuts Down 'Oshi Oshi' Sushi Restaurant in Hadera Over Severe Sanitation Violations
The Israeli Ministry of Health issued an immediate closure order for the 'Oshi Oshi' sushi restaurant located at 10 Prof. Shechtman Street in Hadera due to serious health violations. Inspectors found multiple critical issues including salmon and tuna fish stored at unsafe temperatures, mold in refrigerators, rusty equipment, and a lack of proper handwashing supplies. The initial inspection took place in early August, revealing contaminated equipment, improper separation of raw and cooked foods, refrozen products, unlabeled items, and insufficient soap and paper towels.
Following the inspection, the restaurant owner was given a chance to address the problems during a hearing, presenting evidence of improvements and staff retraining. The health official, Dr. Marwa Matans, suspended the closure order pending a follow-up inspection but warned that any recurring or new violations would lead to immediate shutdown without further hearings.
The follow-up inspection, conducted with a city licensing representative, found that critical violations persisted and new issues emerged. Refrigerators were malfunctioning, salmon was kept at 9.4°C and tuna at 8.7°C, both above legal limits. Vegetables were inadequately washed, mold was present in a refrigerator, trash bins lacked lids, and drainage channels were dirty. Dr. Matans emphasized that the continued operation under these conditions posed a serious public health risk.
The closure order took effect immediately, requiring the restaurant to cease all activities. The Ministry of Health instructed the Israel Police to enforce the closure and ensure full compliance with the order.
