Belfast Riots Break Out After Sudanese Refugee Recorded Attempting to Decapitate Local Resident
Residents in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, set fire overnight Wednesday to asylum seeker facilities, vehicles and buses in response to a Sudanese refugee being documented as having “tried to decapitate a city resident,” who was injured in the incident. Local firefighters rushed to put out burning cars while crowds gathered in the streets and police tried to contain the wave of unrest.
At least two houses were seen burning as the riots spread through residential neighborhoods. Footage: rioters searching for asylum seekers. Northern Ireland’s political leaders condemned the violence, with First Minister Michelle O’Neill calling for calm: “Extremists must not be allowed to set the agenda,” she said.
