Jerusalem Biblical Zoo Workers Secure 17% Pay Raise and 2,000 Shekel Bonus

A new collective agreement was signed for approximately 300 employees of the Biblical Zoo and Israel Aquarium in Jerusalem, granting them an average salary increase of about 17% over three years. Full-time workers will receive a signing bonus of 2,000 shekels, with part-time employees receiving a proportional amount based on their hours. Additional benefits include earlier eligibility for a study fund, improved conditions for security guards who are now included in the collective agreement, and accelerated career advancement by two levels instead of one under the employee retention mechanism.

The agreement also provides that employees reaching 25 years of service will be entitled to a 13th salary, expanded compensation for shift cancellations, extra pay for closing supervisors, first aid duty compensation, options for early retirement, reduced working hours for new mothers in their first year, extended nursing breaks, and shortened workdays during fasting periods for all sectors. Danny Bonfil, head of the regional labor union, emphasized the importance of rewarding dedicated workers with fair compensation and job security, thanking all parties involved in the negotiations for their cooperation.

This agreement marks significant progress in improving wages and social conditions for the zoo's workforce, with many benefits taking effect immediately. The union expressed gratitude to key negotiators for their guidance and support throughout the process.
