Musical Play Highlights Dona Gracia's Historic Impact Amid 16th Century Persecution

The original musical play "Dona" tells the extraordinary story of Dona Gracia, also known as Hanna Nasi, a 16th-century Jewish businesswoman, leader, philanthropist, and visionary. At a time when women had little voice and Jews lived in fear during the Inquisition, Dona Gracia used her wealth, connections, and influence to save persecuted Jews, support Jewish communities, and inspire hope.

Her story is not only historical but also a testament to courage and leadership in an era of fear. Dona Gracia defied societal limitations, demonstrating that true power lies in the ability to impact others' lives. Nearly 500 years later, her legacy resonates strongly in a world where women continue to lead change and break glass ceilings.

The production stars Lila Malkus and features original music, Ladino songs, and works by five pioneering female poets.
