Metula Reopens Advanced Model School After Three-Year Closure to Revive Community

The town of Metula is reopening the "Hanadiv" school after a three-year closure, welcoming back approximately 45 students, about 90% of whom are local residents. The school will initially serve grades one through six with small classes of 8 to 10 students, implementing a new educational model called "Whole Education." This approach emphasizes personalized attention, continuous coordination between formal and informal educational staff, and strong parental involvement to support academic achievement, personal development, emotional resilience, social responsibility, and a sense of belonging.

The reopening is part of a broader effort to restore the community after years of evacuation and disruption. The school will grow gradually each year and will also accept students from outside Metula, with hopes to attract families from other Galilee communities. The local council recently completed hiring the educational team, selecting professionals committed to this innovative model.

Dudi Azulai, a council representative, highlighted that the new system aims to adapt the education to the child rather than forcing the child to fit the system, calling it a transformative approach. The reopening of Hanadiv is seen as a critical step in rebuilding Metula’s social fabric and encouraging families to return and settle long-term, marking more than just the start of a new school year but a revival of life in the border town.
