JetBlue Passengers Shocked as Rat Crawls Through Cabin Ceiling

Passengers on a JetBlue flight were startled after a video on social media showed a rat moving inside the aircraft ceiling during the flight, between the light fixtures and above the overhead bins. According to Simple Flying, the incident took place in the airline’s premium cabin.

The footage drew widespread reactions online. After it was posted, JetBlue contacted the person who uploaded the video, expressed regret over the incident, and asked for the booking and flight details so the airline could investigate.

Beyond the immediate discomfort and sanitation concerns, experts and many commenters said rodents in aircraft can also create safety risks. Rats are known to chew through cables and other components, which could damage electrical systems, sensors, and critical backup mechanisms.

The report also noted that rodent droppings can, over time, damage metal parts and speed up corrosion inside the plane. One common entry point for rats is the jet bridge area connecting the terminal to the aircraft while it is parked, which is why many airports use special protections against pests, and some countries use animal repellents around planes and boarding areas.
