Survivor of Childhood Abuse Proposes After 23 Years, Sharing His Story in New Book

Asaf Anonymi was a standout goalkeeper in third grade when, at age nine, a classmate began bullying and sexually abusing him in the schoolyard after hours. This abuse continued for years, with his parents hearing his nighttime screams but receiving no real response from the school. Asaf remained silent about the trauma for 46 years, with subsequent struggles including anxiety, social isolation, and difficulty adapting to life.

Twenty-three years after the abuse, Asaf decided to openly express love by proposing to his girlfriend in a bustling Tel Aviv market. He chose a simple gold ring and, surrounded by the vibrant market atmosphere, asked her to marry him. She was genuinely surprised and accepted. They later informed his family in Belgium, where his seriously ill father blessed their union, expressing heartfelt support.
