Investigation Reveals Ties Between Israeli Pre-Military Programs and Far-Left Political Groups

An investigative report by Channel 14 News has uncovered significant connections between the Israeli pre-military preparatory programs (mechinot) operated by the "HaHalutz" movement and far-left political organizations. The report highlights the involvement of key figures such as Yaya Pink, a Democratic Party candidate, and Avishai Ben Aharon, head of HaHalutz and grandson of Labor Party veteran Yitzhak Ben Aharon. Ben Aharon is active in the Democratic Party and advocates for a firm left-wing stance against right-wing groups like Kohelet Forum and the Tikvah Fund.

The HaHalutz movement, which includes several pre-army mechinot, reportedly encourages its trainees to engage in left-wing political activism. This includes participation in leftist organizations such as the Movement for Quality Government, Derechenu (behind V15), and the left-wing group Idea. The movement also collaborates with the non-Zionist left-wing organization "Omdim Beyachad," which has promoted draft refusal during wartime. Political figures from the left, including Pink and Shikma Bresler, have lectured at HaHalutz educational institutions.

Financial ties between HaHalutz and left-wing politicians were also exposed. In 2025, Pink transferred nearly 300,000 shekels from the Histadrut to HaHalutz-affiliated nonprofits, while HaHalutz supported Pink’s campaign in the Democratic Party primaries, distributing his book to 400 trainees. The movement organizes trips to Poland for graduates, sponsored by the World Zionist Organization, with the goal of fostering a new generation of committed left-wing leadership.

HaHalutz encourages trainees to extend their studies for an additional half-year, during which they deepen their involvement in left-wing activism. The report paints HaHalutz not only as an educational framework but also as a political arm of the Democratic Party, aiming to cultivate the next generation of Israeli left-wing leaders.
