Police seize guns, ammo and gear in Ramla and Zemer within 48 hours
Police and Border Police units seized illegal weapons and arrest suspects in three separate incidents in less than 48 hours in central Israel, centered on Ramla and Zemer. The operations uncovered pistols, ammunition, ceramic vests, camouflage items and other equipment after shootings and a stabbing raised suspicion of further violence.
On Friday night, Border Police officers in the West Bank heard gunfire coming from the local council of Zemer and began searches in the area, informing the Tayibe station. They spotted two scooters and a private car that looked suspicious, followed them to a compound, and found two pistols, weapon parts and live ammunition. An father and son from Zemer were arrested and taken for questioning.
A few hours later in Ramla, National Guard officers set up a proactive checkpoint as part of efforts to improve control and fight crime in the city. During a search of a suspicious vehicle, they found a Glock hidden under the front seat. The driver and passenger, ages 18 and 22 and both from Ramla, were arrested, and police said one of them tried to attack the officers during the arrest. Both were jailed and brought before a court.
On Saturday afternoon, after a 20-year-old was stabbed on Herzl Boulevard in Ramla, police and National Guard forces searched the city and found hats, balaclavas, masks, a knife, three vests and an airsoft gun. Two suspects, ages 39 and 16, were detained. Later, after another report of gunfire, a further search uncovered a Glock with a full magazine, a ceramic vest and a black helmet. A 61-year-old man at the location was arrested and another suspect, 21, was detained. All evidence was sent for further analysis, while investigators try to determine the weapons' source and whether they were meant for another attack.
