Amit Segal Criticizes Einav Tsangocker's Style Amid Democratic Party List Controversy

Israeli journalist Amit Segal publicly criticized Einav Tsangocker's approach following Democratic Party leader Yair Golan's decision not to reserve protected slots ("shielding") on the party's candidate list for the upcoming elections. Tsangocker had considered running but was reportedly promised a secured spot by Golan, a move Segal deemed a political mistake. Segal argued that transitioning public figures like Tsangocker into politics does not guarantee success, comparing it to similar challenges faced by former military officers, athletes, and families of hostages entering politics. "The burden of proof is on Tsangocker," he said.

While acknowledging Tsangocker's dedication to advocating for her son Matan and other hostages, Segal criticized her style as "vulgar," saying it is inappropriate for a politician. He explained that reserved slots in party lists should address existing gaps by bringing in new audiences or perspectives, which he claimed Tsangocker does not provide. Segal noted that the Democratic Party already has many candidates with left-wing, combative stances.

Segal also faulted Golan for promising Tsangocker a protected spot without clear justification, calling it a "political error" that created false expectations. He suggested Golan should have encouraged her to compete in the primaries instead. Ultimately, Segal supported Golan's decision to forgo reserved slots, warning that such moves could cause internal party tensions and push other candidates down the list.
