Thousands Gather at Rabbi Zaidel of Kretshnif's Tomb for First Yahrzeit Observance

On the night of Friday, the beginning of Parashat Shoftim, thousands of Jews will visit the tomb of Rabbi Zaidel of Kretshnif, known as the "Reza D'amona," to mark the first yahrzeit (anniversary of passing) since his death. Rabbi Zaidel, revered for his deep compassion and spiritual insight, was known for reading kvitelach (prayer notes) and interceding for the Jewish people with great devotion despite a life filled with suffering.

The yahrzeit falls on the 2nd of Elul, 5786, coinciding with Rosh Chodesh Elul and the Shabbat of Parashat Shoftim. The rabbi's tomb on the Mount of Olives has become a pilgrimage site where thousands come to pray and seek blessings, fulfilling his promise to a follower that "at my grave, one can act as if I were alive."

At midnight, a special prayer gathering will take place, including the laying of kvitelach on the tomb, with participation from Rabbi Zaidel's son, the current Kretshnif-Sighet Rebbe, and prominent rabbis. Transportation will be provided from the Zaks Junction in Jerusalem to the tomb site. Nearby, a hospitality tent will offer refreshments and celebratory drinks for the large crowd.
