Bernie Sanders Calls to Ban Super PACs in Democratic Primaries to Fight Corruption

Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders has launched a campaign against what he calls the "corrupt system" within the Democratic Party, demanding that party leadership prohibit Super PACs from participating in the upcoming primaries. Sanders argues that hundreds of millions of dollars from outside groups allow special interests to unduly influence election outcomes, regardless of party affiliation. In an interview with CBS News, he warned that interests ranging from pro-Israel lobby AIPAC to artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency sectors are poised to dominate the primaries to advance their agendas, crossing party lines if necessary.

Despite his strong stance, Sanders acknowledged that without broad reform, candidates will continue to rely on Super PAC funding in general elections to avoid severe financial disadvantages. He identified the root of the problem as the 2010 Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United, which removed restrictions on political spending by outside entities. Sanders advocates for overturning this decision and moving toward public campaign financing.

In his letter to Democratic leaders, Sanders urged immediate action to prevent special Republican interests from determining Democratic primary results, emphasizing that ideological differences within the party should not allow such interference. He concluded by calling on the party to reject and dismantle the current system to restore electoral integrity.
