WhatsApp Develops Floating Search Button to Simplify iPhone Chat Navigation
WhatsApp is developing a new floating search button for iPhone users that will appear at the bottom of the screen when scrolling up within a chat. This feature aims to streamline the process of finding old messages by eliminating the need to leave the chat interface and navigate through multiple menus. Currently, iPhone users must tap the contact or group name, access the chat info screen, select search, and then return to the chat to search for specific messages, which disrupts the flow of conversation.
The new search button will appear contextually only when the user scrolls upward to review previous messages and will disappear automatically when scrolling back down to the latest messages. This behavior is similar to the existing arrow button that returns users to the most recent message. The feature was discovered in WhatsApp's beta version 26.31.10.70 for iOS via Apple's TestFlight platform but is still in early development and not yet available even to beta testers.
WhatsApp has not announced an official release date for this update. The company is focused on bringing search functionality closer to where users spend most of their time within the app, particularly in busy group chats or long conversations, to significantly improve navigation and user experience.
