Israel Officially Approves Jurisdiction of Givat HaRa'el Settlement and Recognizes Kida and Esh Kodesh Names

The Israeli government has officially approved the jurisdictional boundaries of the Givat HaRa'el settlement (also known as Karmei Oz) on state lands, marking a significant step in formalizing the settlement's status. This decision follows the February 2023 directive by the Security Cabinet to begin official regulation of Givat HaRa'el alongside the nearby Givat HaRoah settlement. Concurrently, the government’s Naming Committee granted formal recognition to the original names of the settlements Kida and Esh Kodesh.

Israel Gantz, head of the Binyamin Regional Council and chairman of the Yesha Council, praised the developments, calling them "significant steps in the official recognition of these important settlements." He emphasized ongoing efforts by the regional council and the Settlement Administration to regulate additional settlement areas and advance the broader settlement expansion in the Binyamin region.

Finance Minister and Defense Minister Bezalel Smotrich described the approval as "another major milestone in the settlement revolution led over the past four years," highlighting achievements such as the authorization of 104 new settlements, advancement of 160 outposts, and historic funding for infrastructure and roads. Smotrich warned of potential setbacks if a new government led by Gadi Eizenkot and Yair Golan were elected, predicting they might evacuate settlements and promote the establishment of a "terror state" within Israel’s heart.

The official recognition of Givat HaRa'el’s jurisdiction and the settlements’ names is part of a broader government strategy to solidify Israeli presence and development in the West Bank, particularly in the Binyamin area, amid ongoing political and security debates.
