Israeli Police Officer Bravely Rescues Man from Burning Apartment in Eilat

A fire broke out in a third-floor apartment in a building in Eilat, endangering the life of a man trapped inside. Senior Sergeant Major Yaakov Dorni, along with other police officers, forced open the steel door of the apartment using a heavy hammer without waiting for firefighters. After about five to seven minutes, they broke through and found the man amid the flames in the living room.

Dorni, who is also trained as a medic, immediately lifted the injured man onto his shoulder and carried him down three flights of stairs. He communicated with medical teams waiting outside to prepare a stretcher for urgent treatment. The medical staff later confirmed that the quick rescue saved the man’s life, as he was in critical condition.

Dorni’s wife, Shani, praised his courage and dedication, noting that he effectively wore "three hats" during the rescue: police officer, firefighter, and medic. Dorni described the rescue as part of the police’s mission to save lives and protect property, emphasizing the pride and fulfillment that comes from such acts despite the demanding nature of the job.

Firefighters subsequently extinguished the blaze and ventilated the building. Fire investigators have begun examining the cause of the fire. The incident highlights the critical role of police officers in emergency response alongside firefighters and medical personnel.
