Israel Opens Refurbished Nature Trails and Springs for Summer Refreshment
The Israel Land Authority has revitalized and opened several scenic nature trails and springs across the country for public enjoyment this summer. Visitors are encouraged to bring hats, sunscreen, and water to explore these free-access sites, which feature accessible walking paths, shaded seating areas, observation points, and rich local vegetation.
Among the highlighted locations is the Jordan River Stream Reserve, stretching about 10 kilometers between Degania Dam and Naharayim, offering paved trails suitable for walking and cycling, picnic areas, and ecological restoration that supports diverse wildlife. The Hula Canal Park in the Galilee's Finger region spans approximately 12 kilometers, featuring accessible boardwalks, green lawns, and shaded spots along a historically significant waterway transformed into a natural stream.
In the Golan Heights, the "Land of Springs" includes sites like Ein Orha and Ein Almayin, known for their refreshing pools and lush surroundings, with improved infrastructure for visitors. The Horse Spring (Ein Yabok) in the Zippori Stream area boasts an emerald-colored ancient pool and historical waterworks, enhanced for safe recreation and ecological protection.
Additional sites include Ein Adad in the Jezreel Valley, combining natural beauty with historical elements such as a historic pumping station adorned with graffiti art. The Jisr az-Zarqa promenade and Wilhelm Bridge near the Tanninim Stream estuary offer coastal views, restored historic structures, and ecological conservation efforts. Lastly, Ashdod Yam Fortress Park presents a blend of archaeological heritage, wildlife habitats, and dune landscapes with accessible trails and educational signage.
All these projects were funded by the Israel Land Authority through the Open Spaces Preservation Fund, focusing on ecological restoration, accessibility improvements, and visitor amenities to promote nature connection and family-friendly outdoor activities across Israel.
