Dr. Liran Tiausno Appointed Chair of Israeli Retina Society to Advance Eye Surgery and AI Integration

Dr. Liran Tiausno, a cataract and retina surgeon at Hadassah Medical Center, has been elected chair of the Israeli Retina Society. In this role, he will lead efforts to advance retinal surgery and disease treatment in Israel, expand clinical and research collaborations, train future specialists, and integrate advanced technologies including artificial intelligence into ophthalmology.

Dr. Tiausno brings extensive clinical experience and surgical expertise, handling complex cataract surgeries with advanced lens implants and intricate retinal procedures such as retinal detachment, macular holes, diabetic complications, and severe ocular trauma. He completed his medical degree at Ben-Gurion University’s Goldman School of Medicine and holds a Master’s in Health Administration. His ophthalmology residency was at Hadassah, followed by fellowships in retinal surgery at the University of Ottawa and the Doheny Eye Institute at UCLA.

His research focuses on advanced retinal imaging and AI applications for diagnosing and predicting retinal diseases, particularly age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Tiausno is an active researcher and senior lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has co-founded medical technology ventures, holds a patent in retinal surgery, and published numerous articles in leading international journals.

Upon his appointment, Dr. Tiausno expressed enthusiasm and commitment to strengthening the professional retina community in Israel, promoting technological innovation, and making cutting-edge surgical techniques accessible to patients. He emphasized collaboration with colleagues to elevate the field to new heights.
