Former Shomron Council Head Gershon Mesika Returns to Politics, Joins Likud Primaries

Gershon Mesika, former head of the Shomron Regional Council from 2007 to 2015, has announced his return to politics by entering the upcoming Likud party primaries. He aims to secure the 27th spot on the party's Knesset list, a position reserved for a representative from the Judea and Samaria, Jerusalem, and Shfela districts. Mesika brings extensive municipal and public experience and seeks to strengthen the national camp and settlement movement within the party.

Mesika previously ran for the same district slot but was placed behind Likud MK Avichai Boaron. This time, he has gained backing from local leaders and key Likud activists. His candidacy follows a recent Likud court ruling that barred current and former public officials, including MKs and ministers, from running in district-based slots, a decision that halted initiatives by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister Haim Katz and opened the field to grassroots candidates.

In a detailed appeal to party activists and group leaders, Mesika emphasized the importance of experience and understanding local needs. He stated his goal is to ensure strong representation committed to advancing settlements, peripheral areas, and the Likud movement's agenda.
